Washington County Jail Overview
Washington County Jail is operated by the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 500 Rolfs Avenue in West Bend. It is the adult county jail, not a state prison and not the co-located juvenile detention center. The county describes the jail's mission as maintaining safety, security, control, and order for county residents and people housed there.

The strongest official population source is the Washington County Sheriff's Office 2023 Annual Report. It did not publish a rated bed capacity in the located sources, so capacity should not be guessed. The report did provide average daily population and booking figures: 170 in-house adult ADP, 184 total adult ADP including electronic monitoring, 14 electronic monitoring ADP, and 3,650 adult admissions in 2023.

No official Washington County Jail online roster or clickable public inmate profile was located on the county site. The public lookup chain starts with the jail, then moves to sheriff records, WCCA court records, DOC, VINELink, BOP, or ICE depending on custody type. A caller should have the person's full name, date of birth if known, approximate arrest date, and arresting agency.

Washington County Jail Visitation
Adult family and friend visitation at Washington County Jail shifted to CIDNET video on February 27, 2023. The county says adult in-person visits are no longer offered for general family and friend visiting. Lobby video visits are free from the jail lobby, while personal-device visits carry a vendor fee. Video visits depend on classification and disciplinary status, and all visits are recorded and monitored by Sheriff's Office personnel.

Washington County Jail Money
The Inmate Information page covers commissary, account deposits, mail, medical care, recreation, and program rules. Commissary orders must be completed through Phone It In by 10:00 p.m. Tuesday and are distributed by Friday by 10:00 p.m. The weekly commissary purchase limit is $60. Deposit identifiers include inmate ID or inmate name and date of birth.

Washington County Jail Mail
Mail and publication rules are narrower than ordinary household mail. Magazines and newspapers may be ordered by subscription, with a limit of three subscription periodicals per month. A daily newspaper counts as one periodical for the month. Hard-cover books are not accepted. Soft-cover books must come directly from a publisher, bookstore, or Amazon through U.S. Mail, FedEx, or UPS.
CIDNET also supports messaging and photos, but those communications are monitored and are not the same as booking mugshots. Photos must follow the same dress standard as video visits, and nudity can lead to denial and suspension or termination of messaging privileges. Illegal behavior, threats, and safety or security risks are barred.
Washington County Jail Booking
A regular Washington County Jail booking follows an arrest. The county FAQ also describes pre-booking, which is often ordered by a court for fingerprinting, DNA, or sentence-preparation details before a later report date. People ordered to report for a sentence are told to report to the Washington County Jail north of the courthouse and enter through the red doors. Failing to report can lead to an arrest warrant and may jeopardize Huber privileges.
After receiving, jail staff handle search, identity, property, paperwork, medical screening, and classification. Wisconsin law also requires jail maintenance, care, cleanliness, and prisoner classification under Wis. Stat. 302.37, while jail operating standards are governed by Wis. Admin. Code ch. DOC 350. The jail supplies clothing, bedding, hygiene items, sandals or clogs, socks, and a cup after a person moves out of receiving, while one full set of street clothing must remain in jail property.
Washington County Huber Custody
Huber work release is a Wisconsin county jail program for approved sentenced inmates. Washington County's Huber page says allowable release hours are set by jail supervisors based on verified work hours and travel time. Huber inmates generally may work only in Washington County or adjacent counties. Approved release may cover employment, self-employment, court, education, treatment, medical care, childcare, or other court-approved reasons.
Electronic monitoring is a separate jail program using GPS technology, home visits, and alcohol-monitoring devices. Eligibility is case-by-case and may consider criminal history, current charges, institutional history, ability to pay, childcare or parental concerns, medical needs, and other inmate-provided information. Discipline for violations can include a verbal warning, removal from the program, loss of Huber privileges, loss of good time, or criminal charges.

About Washington County Jail
Washington County Jail has adult jail programs beyond basic housing. The 2023 annual report identifies Reverend James Hill as jail chaplain since 2000 and says adults booked that year practiced more than 26 religions. It also says Summit Food Service provided jail meals, with 177,016 adult meals served in 2023 and menus planned with registered dietitian input for nutrition, religious diets, therapeutic diets, holidays, and variety.
The facility should not be confused with the Washington County Secure Juvenile Detention Center, even though both are at 500 Rolfs Avenue. The juvenile center serves court-ordered youth and has restricted access rules.
